Before You Decide to Adopt a Greyhound…

BugsyAdopting a Greyhound is a long-term commitment, often ten or more wonderful years! Before filling out an application, please take the time to seriously consider your decision. We are looking for adopters who will take these beautiful dogs into their homes as permanent members of their family. Life changes can happen, and unfortunately, sometimes the dogs are returned as a result. However, it’s important to remember that your Greyhound, as a family member, should be included in whatever life adjustments are necessary.

In addition, your Greyhound may get sick or develop behavioral issues that require your attention and care. This is part of the commitment you make as an adopter. Your dog is your priority. In some cases, it may be in the best interest of the dog to return them to the adoption group to be re-homed. However, it’s important to understand that as adaptable as Greyhounds are, it can be difficult for them to be removed from their home after several months or years and made to adjust to a new living situation. If, after careful consideration, you decide to adopt a Greyhound, know that you are giving yourself and your new Greyhound the chance for a long and happy relationship.

If you are interested in adopting a Greyhound, please read through the requirements outlined in the “How to Adopt” section, complete, and submit an application. Unfortunately, due to the process and timing of how dogs are adopted and matched with their potential families, we are not able to allow individuals to meet dogs prior to an application being received, reviewed, and approved.
