Volunteering

If you own a retired racing greyhound, you could volunteer. Even if you don’t own a retired racing greyhound, you could volunteer. Northern Lights Greyhound Adoption (NLGA) is a nonprofit group of volunteers dedicated to finding responsible homes for retired racing greyhounds and educating the public about greyhounds as pets. To do this, we need help.

NLGA events are listed on the calendar. Examples of yearly events you can look forward to are: The Annual Picnic, Holiday Boutique, summer and fall parades, dog shows, art shows, Renaissance Festival, county and state fairs, and dining with your hound at dog-friendly restaurants.

On a monthly basis, NLGA’s calendar lists group walks in local/regional parks, social events, and opportunities for greyhound enthusiasts to get together, socialize, and for NLGA members to be creative.

On a weekly basis, at various locations around the metro area, we host Meet & Greets. Hosting your own Meet & Greet is fun for you and your greyhound.

On an emergency basis, participate in the lost hound network. Hopefully, you and your greyhound will never need this.

We can only offer these events if we have volunteers who are willing to suggest and participate in these fun activities. We need your help to offer these events.

Here are some volunteering requests:

  • Recruit, create, or collect donations for the Annual Picnic or Holiday Boutique.
  • Help set up, work an hour or two, tear down after the Holiday Boutique.
  • Help pack, set up, work a shift, tear down, or unload after the Annual Picnic.
  • Supervise an adoptable greyhound at the Annual Picnic.
  • Walk your greyhound and/or an adoptable greyhound in a parade.
  • Carry the NLGA banner while you and your dog walk in a parade.
  • Drive a shuttle vehicle to get people to and from parade sites.
  • Attend events with your greyhound and share your “Greyt” knowledge.
  • Host a Meet & Greet, or attend Meet & Greets.
  • Join us for group walks or create your own group walk.
  • Identify dog-friendly restaurants where we could eat and drink.
  • Share your computer, graphic, or printing expertise.
  • Share your creative talents, skills, and hobbies.
  • Help transport greyhounds.
  • Foster an adoptable greyhound!
